Smart Summer Energy Saving Tips

Smart Summer Energy Saving Tips

Start saving money for the long term by following these simple tips in summer to conserve energy.

In today’s world, energy is there whenever we need it, so it can be very easy to forget where it comes from, how much it costs and how it all adds up.

Every year, we use more energy than we did the year before. A lot of this energy is wasted by using too much or not using it wisely.

Unfortunately, energy isn’t free, but there are energy saving tips we can adopt to bring down the cost of energy to not only make us save more, but help us be environmentally friendlier.

Energy Saving Tips:

1. Keep windows, curtains, and blinds closed during the day to keep the house cool without needing to put on the air con.

2. At night time, open windows and blinds to let hot air out and cool air in.

3. If you must use your air conditioner, clean the filters, this helps the air con not have to work as hard when cooling your home.

4. Before turning on the air con, try using a fan.

5. Keep the air con set at 24 degrees – every degree lower you set your air con can significantly affect running costs during summer.

6. Put shade cloth over your east and west facing windows, which will stop some of the sun before it hits your windows, thus heating up your house.

7. Plant deciduous trees and bushes on the western and eastern sides of your home. These will block summer sun but let winter sun through.

8. Consider installing roof insulation, which will prevent heat enterting the house but also the cool air from your air con escaping.

9. Install whirly birds or roof ventilators on your roof. They remove the hot air from the roof cavity, helping to keep the house cool.

10. Turn off electrical appliances on the wall when not in use. When they are on standby but not in use, they can add more money onto your bill.
