Displaying Digital Art in your New Home. We look at some of the hot digital art trends in 2014.

Digital art is an artistic practice or work that uses digital technology as a vital part of the creative or presentation process. Digital technology has transformed activities such as painting, drawing, sculpture and music. A digital artist is one who makes use of digital technologies in the production of art.  Digital art is a term applied to contemporary art that uses methods of pass production or digital media. Both digital and traditional artists use a variety of electronic information and programs to create their work.

Techniques of the digital art is used extensively in mainstream media in advertisements and by movie makers to produce visual effects. Desktop publishing is also a big thing in the publishing world, although it is more related to graphic design.

Interactive Art

Rather than showcasing art the traditional way with risk of it not suiting your interior design or perhaps you getting bored of it – in comes digital interactive art. There are many innovative design start up projects that have started with this concept, with one popular one being Framed 2.0 by Yugo Nakamura, where you showcase artistic imagery digitally on your walls and modify it to suit your interior environment via smartphone.

Displaying Memories, The Digital Way

Forget the old school picture frame way of displaying your favourite images. Why have a traditional photo that can only show off one shot (that you also have to print) when you can have a digital photo frame that can display many at a time in a fashionable way? A digital photo frame (also called a digital media frame) is a picture frame that displays digital photos without the need of a computer or printer. Although tablet computers may achieve the same purpose, digital photo frames are specifically designed to be a stationary, aesthetic display of photographs with a more nicer-looking frame and power system for long-term photo display use. These digital photo frames come in a variety of shapes and sizes with a range of features, with some even able to play videos and play sound to accompany the pictures. All you have to do is pop in a memory card or USB thumb drive and instantly create cool slideshow transitions to display all your pics.

 Walking on digital carpet

Dutch carpet firm Desso teamed up with electronic company Philips to create digital carpet. That’s right – digital carpet. It uses LED lights, which are laid beneath the carpet, showing through its translucent subsurface. This can be pre-programmed to convey electronic messages to whose who walk on it – or it can be plugged into live internet feeds. Do we really need digital carpets? Either way, this is LED light transmissice carpet doesn’t just have to look cool, it also provides information, direction, inspiration and safety in offices, hotels and public buildings. See the video of it below.

Digital art is taking over in our homes, and it’s not all just about aesthetics and looking pretty. Welcome to the future.
